Dear Hudson Coffee Trader Friends and Family;
For 5 years now I’ve volunteered for an organization called Stockings with Care. This not-for-profit organization works tirelessly to create Christmas for over 2,000 children living in shelters throughout New York City by matching donors with needy recipients. Part of the beauty of Stockings With Care is that the children do not know that the gifts have been bought by generous strangers but rather are left to believe that it was either their parents or Santa Claus who saw to it that their wishes came true.
My volunteer time is spent over a single weekend where we gather all of presents, wrap and do any last minute shopping- it must be seen to be believed! This year, for some reason, my shopping garnered much attention in the stores. I can’t tell you how many people asked what I was doing and then asked for the organization’s website so that they too could make a donation. It was truly inspiring!
My day started at 9am and ended well after midnight. I was exhausted but had an overwhelming sense of charity and goodwill that this time of year is known for but one that I seldom personally experience.
The next morning when I checked my email there was a message from a friend about Family of New Paltz and their last minute appeal to the community for support. They have been inundated with requests this year and are struggling to keep up.
It’s not too late to make a difference for a child this year…so I guess I’m hoping someone reads this and picks up an extra toy or coat or a pair of mittens and drops them off at Family, either in New Paltz or Kingston. There are so many of our neighbors who are in need and, after all, it’s Christmas time.
In the spirit of the season we also want to take a moment to thank you; the amazing, inspiring, funny, smart, creative and loyal customers of Hudson Coffee Traders. Tim and I will be celebrating our third anniversary with you here in Uptown Kingston in March and we are so very grateful to be able to spend another Holiday season serving, learning from, chatting and laughing with you all!
From our family to yours, we wish you a Peaceful and Joyous Holiday Season and an Inspiring and Prosperous New Year!
Donna & Tim Brooks
PS: HCT will be open as usual except we will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day!
