And now… a word from Alex

We’ve been incredibly lucky to get to know many of our customers over the past three years.  You are an amazingly smart, creative and inspiring bunch and we love that we get to share a part of your day with you.

You may know each other, or you may have just seen one another as you rush in and out. Either way, we want to take the opportunity to make some proper introductions and thought what better way than by asking: TEN QUESTION: HCT STYLE.  (And yes, we’ve borrowed heavily from the Proust questionnaire concept. You could do worse.)

We’ve asked writer, blogger, coffee cup artiste extraordinaire Alex Brown to take the inaugural quiz.

What’s your HCT regular order?

Back in the early years, I began a blog campaign to Hudson Coffee Traders, petitioning for a larger to-go cup. Soon thereafter, the large coffee cup size  introduced! Go ahead. You can thank me for those extra few ounces you get now! You can read more about it here http://sleepjunky.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-330-in-which-no-subjects-yelled-but.html

So, the typical Alex Brown order is one large cup of coffee. Jenna recognizes this without me needing to speak a word. She’s a great barista!

Though the oatmeal is divine.

What would the title of your biography be?
Angst.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Why? What have they been telling you…?

If you could have coffee with anyone throughout history who would it be?
Hunter S. Thompson. Or maybe, Hank Bukowski. Maybe both at the same time! Wild.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a snow day?
Press coffee, nap.

Do you have a nickname and if so, who gave it to you?
A number of local yokels, who have become good friends over time, I’ve met initially through Twitter, so a lot of them know me as “sleepjunky” instead of Alex. I’ve always been big on napping and have been known to fall asleep under unusual conditions. This really doesn’t conflict with my coffee habit, although often people note this unusual combination. Really, though, I depend on the coffee to keep awake!

If you could have been at one event in history, what would it be?
I bet it was real cool that day Copernicus figured out that we weren’t at the center of the universe.

What’s your greatest virtue?
Hmm. I don’t believe I possess a great virtue, in that I own it somehow, but I think the most important virtues to be cultivated, where I think we fail now, are those which encourage traits of rationality – those of inquiry, of argument, those which would support a rigorous criteria by which we examine our world, and what’s happening within it. Yeah, sorry, that’s not very clever or funny now, is it? But seriously.

What’s your greatest weakness?
My greatest weaknesses, my greatest loves: consuming coffee and napping. Are you sensing a theme here?

What do you aspire to be?
Wide-awake.
